How to Optimise Your Home Energy Use at Christmas

Heatkeepers

When we look at energy savings at home, one of the main things within a house that is visible is your heating. There is a need to maintain the heating and the subsequent output of the radiator. When the radiators come on, there is a delay between the radiator heating up and the room starting to reach its desired room temperature. The interesting part of this sequence is although the radiator is facing into the room, it doesn't control how much heat it puts into the wall itself.

When I was growing up, my dad would put silver foil behind the radiator, which although it has the desired effect, would degrade over a period of time. In 2009, my son Stefan was a ‘Eco Warrior’ at school, and won an award for his ideas, one of them being to install Heatkeepers.

I really like the fact that I could install the Heatkeeper myself, as it had no moving parts and is durable.  In 2009 after installing this in my house, the rooms heated very quickly and efficiently with significant savings. My tip is to purchase a box of the Heatkeepers for your home or business and see what impact it makes.  I installed them in my old house and a hotel, both with great benefits of reduced bills at a low cost.
